Western Michigan defeats Buffalo 20-17 in MAC opener

Western Michigan University secured its first Mid-American Conference win of the season with a 20-17 victory over Buffalo at Broadview Stadium. The Broncos (3-2, 1-0 MAC) clinched the win following a critical goal-line stand in the final seconds of the game.

After Dieter Kelly kicked a go-ahead field goal with 79 seconds remaining, Buffalo drove 74 yards to face a fourth-and-goal situation at the 2-yard line. With two seconds left on the clock, Buffalo quarterback Jason Wright was stopped short of the pylon by defensive lineman Scoop Gardner Jr., preserving the lead for Western Michigan.

Quarterback Broc Lowry led the Broncos' offense, completing 19 of 24 passes for 212 yards and adding a 5-yard touchdown run. Jalen Buckley also contributed a touchdown and 62 rushing yards. Buffalo, now 2-3, previously held a 17-10 lead before the Broncos' late rally.
