Western Michigan University athletics preview: hockey and women's basketball

Western Michigan University is preparing for upcoming athletic competitions in both hockey and women's basketball.

The men's hockey team, currently ranked No. 6/5 nationally, is set to host LIU at Lawson Arena for its final non-conference series on October 29 and 30. This marks the first meeting between the two programs. The Broncos hold a 4-1-0 record, led by goaltender Quentin Miller, who has helped the team maintain a strong defensive standing nationally.

In women's basketball, head coach Kate Achter is preparing her squad for the 2026-27 season opener against Coastal Carolina on November 2. Following a season impacted by injuries, the roster features several transfers, including Kaylyn Buchanon, Zuri Ransom, Faith Wiseman, and Emily Van Timmeren, as the team aims to build chemistry and development.
