Western Playland’s Southwest Slinger ride suffers cable failure, no injuries

A high‑tension cable on the Southwest Slinger attraction at Western Playland amusement park broke while the ride was in operation. Two riders were on the ride when the cable snapped, causing the ride to hang in the air. Both occupants were able to descend safely on their own and did not sustain injuries.

Video of the incident circulated on social media, showing the suspended ride and the riders exiting. Park officials have not released details on the cause of the failure or confirmed whether the attraction will remain closed pending an inspection. The park, located in Sunland Park, New Mexico near the Texas border, has faced previous incidents this season, including a fireworks‑related brush fire in May.
