Western Sumi Hoho raises oil, border, and mapping concerns with Nagaland CM

A delegation from the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH), led by President Tokuho Suhoi Neho, met with Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio to discuss several critical regional issues. The group submitted a formal representation addressing grievances within the Western Sumi jurisdiction, specifically focusing on the newly established Niuland district.

Key concerns raised include the management of oil exploration. While acknowledging potential economic benefits, the WSH emphasized that any resource extraction must utilize fair, transparent, and community-centric frameworks to protect the land ownership and economic interests of indigenous inhabitants.

The delegation also addressed the ongoing Nagaland-Assam border dispute near Niuland district, noting that territorial uncertainty negatively impacts the security and livelihoods of local villagers. Additionally, the WSH called for the correction of digital mapping errors, specifically regarding discrepancies in GPS coordinates for several historic Naga villages.
