Western Women's Rugby League faces discontinuation
The Western Women's Rugby League (WWRL) spring competition is scheduled to end after this year, a decision made by NSW Rugby League to focus on winter months and increase participation during that period.
The move has sparked significant backlash from players, volunteers, and parents across all age groups. Martin Power, the WWRL competition secretary, stated that the decision could set the women's game in the region back by five years.
In response, Kira McCormack has launched a petition to save the competition. The petition, which aims for 2,000 signatures, had surpassed 1,300 supporters as of early October. McCormack expressed hope that the movement will prompt discussions with NSWRL regarding the future of women's rugby league in the western regions.
