Westfalen-Gruppe invests millions in natural refrigerant production

The Westfalen-Gruppe has completed a new facility in Münster-Gelmer, Germany, dedicated to the production of high-purity propane (R-290). This investment, totaling in the low double-digit millions, aims to capture the growing market for natural refrigerants.

The propane produced will serve various applications, most notably as a critical component for heat pumps in future heat supply technologies. The project was officially commissioned in the presence of Gitta Connemann, Parliamentary State Secretary and Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs.

Meike Schäffler, Production Director of the Westfalen-Gruppe, stated that the new plant ensures reliable supply for customers amidst the expected expansion of the heat pump market. The Münster-Gelmer site remains one of the company’s most significant locations for industrial, energy, and mobility business.
