Westfield West Lakes redevelopment plans include 2,000 new homes
The South Australian Government has initiated the rezoning process for a major mixed-use redevelopment at Westfield West Lakes. The project aims to unlock up to 2,000 new homes by replacing underutilised land and ground-level parking with medium and high-density apartments.
The West Lakes Strategic Infill Code Amendment will investigate planning rule changes, which could include building heights of up to 20 storeys. The existing shopping centre is expected to continue trading and may expand as part of the long-term vision.
Premier Peter Malinauskas noted that increasing density in established locations is essential for Adelaide's growth. The proposal is also driven by expected employment growth on the nearby LeFevre Peninsula due to the AUKUS submarine program.
