Westheim and Allersheim Breweries Enter Insolvency Proceedings in Germany

The historic Gräflich zu Stolberg'sche Brauerei Westheim (founded 1862) and the older Brauerei Allersheim (founded 1854) have both filed for insolvency in self‑administration at the Amtsgericht Bielefeld. The court approved the request, allowing the companies to continue operating while a court‑appointed supervisor monitors the restructuring.

Production, bottling and distribution will continue unchanged, preserving supply for restaurants, wholesalers and retailers. Westheim, employing about 60 people, remains a key regional employer, while the Allersheim site affects roughly eight jobs. The breweries cite a prolonged decline in beer consumption and rising costs for energy, raw materials, packaging, logistics and personnel as the drivers of the financial distress. After a 2024 merger, Allersheim’s brands are now brewed at Westheim, and the insolvency aims to stabilise both businesses and safeguard the Marsberg‑Westheim location.
