Westhessen Police expands community officer program

The Westhessen Police Headquarters has significantly expanded its ‘Schutzleute vor Ort’ (SvO) program, nearly doubling the number of community officers from 18 to 30. Police President Björn Gutzeit welcomed the new officers, emphasizing that these personnel serve as vital contact points to foster closer connections between the police, local municipalities, and citizens.

The duties of these officers include prevention work, information events, and collaboration with schools, clubs, and local institutions. By maintaining a regular presence, they aim to build trust and gather community concerns early to inform police operations.

In Seeheim-Jugenheim, local municipal representative Max Panhans recently shadowed officer Andreas Stürmlinger to gain insight into the role. Panhans noted the importance of the officer's connection to the school community and the diverse nature of the work, which ranges from patrol rounds and citizen dialogue to school route safety and cooperation with local regulatory offices.
