WestJet Allows Free Ticket Changes Ahead of Potential Flight‑Attendant Strike

WestJet announced that passengers with bookings between July 30 and August 4 can make one‑time changes or cancellations at no charge. The policy was introduced as the airline’s flight‑attendant union, CUPE Local 8125, voted 97 % in favour of strike action, giving the bargaining committee authority to call a walkout if a new contract is not reached by Aug 2. Union leaders said the vote does not guarantee a strike but is meant to strengthen their negotiating position. WestJet said talks with the union are ongoing and the airline wants to give travelers certainty. The flexible‑travel offer does not apply to WestJet Encore Q400 flights or code‑share flights operated by partner airlines.
