WestJet cuts ten US routes, halving Vancouver's winter network

WestJet Airlines Ltd. has confirmed the cancellation of ten U.S. routes for the 2026‑27 winter schedule, reducing the number of U.S. destinations served from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) from eleven to six. Weekly transborder departures from YVR will fall from 66 to 49, a drop of roughly 26%.

The cancelled services include Vancouver‑Atlanta, Vancouver‑Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Vancouver‑Los Angeles, Vancouver‑Lihue and Vancouver‑Orlando. Additional cuts affect one U.S. destination each from Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon and Toronto Pearson. WestJet said the cuts reflect insufficient seasonal demand and a focus on long‑term sustainability, though it will continue to provide access via its hub at Calgary and through codeshare agreements, notably the Delta‑operated Vancouver‑Los Angeles service that will begin on 21 Nov 2026.

The airline’s schedule filings, obtained by AeroRoutes, confirm these reductions, which follow earlier fall and summer route suspensions that together have cut WestJet’s U.S. capacity by about a third.
