WestJet flight cancellation leads to premature labor for pregnant traveler

A Canadian woman, Julia Henry, went into premature labor after her WestJet flight from Kingston, Jamaica, to Winnipeg, Canada, was canceled. Henry, who was 31 weeks pregnant at the time, and her husband, Jordan, were scheduled to depart on August 3.

After being informed that the earliest available WestJet flight would not depart until August 7, the couple requested to be rebooked on alternative carriers. WestJet reportedly declined to move them to Air Canada due to limited seat availability and stated they could not rebook them on a U.S. carrier.

To return home, the couple spent over $4,500 on new flights through Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During the journey, Henry began feeling unwell and was admitted to a hospital in Florida for premature labor.
