WestJet launches Winnipeg‑Belize City nonstop flight and other winter routes

WestJet announced five new nonstop routes for its 2026‑2027 winter schedule, expanding service to several sun destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. The airline will begin a weekly Winnipeg‑Belize City flight on 14 December, adding to its existing nonstop service from Toronto and Calgary. Additional routes will connect Winnipeg to Mérida (Mexico), San José del Cabo (Mexico), Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) and Ottawa to Liberia (Costa Rica). Executive Vice‑President and Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill said the expansion responds to growing demand for travel to these regions during the peak winter season.

Belize’s Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler welcomed the new flight, noting its potential to increase visitor numbers and support the local hospitality sector. The seasonal service will operate once per week initially, with future continuation dependent on passenger demand. WestJet aims to serve 50 sun destinations from 15 Canadian cities, reinforcing its position as Canada’s leading leisure airline.
