WestJet to start direct Calgary–Mérida flights in December 2026

WestJet announced a new seasonal direct service between Calgary, Canada and Mérida, Mexico. The weekly flight will operate a Boeing 737‑800 with 174 seats from 17 December 2026 until 1 April 2027, providing the only nonstop link between the two cities during the winter tourism season.

The route complements WestJet’s existing Toronto‑Mérida service and is part of a strategy to attract Canadian travelers to Yucatán’s cultural, culinary and natural attractions. Yucatán’s tourism secretary Darío Flota Ocampo highlighted Canada as a key market, while WestJet executive John Weatherill said the addition responds to growing demand for sun‑and‑beach destinations during Canada’s cold months. The launch was coordinated with the Yucatán government, the State Tourism Secretariat and the Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste.
