Westnetz begins gas supply transition preparations in Dorsten

Westnetz has announced preparations for a major gas supply transition in Dorsten, Germany, affecting approximately 22,000 households and businesses. The network operator plans to switch from L-gas to H-gas by the summer of 2028, a move driven by the declining availability of L-gas in Germany and the Netherlands.

Because H-gas possesses different combustion properties, existing gas appliances such as heaters, stoves, and water heaters must be inspected and potentially modified. Preparations begin in late September, when technicians from the specialized firm Gatter3 will visit properties to assess which replacement parts, such as gas nozzles, will be required.

The technical adjustments are scheduled to commence around March 2028. During this phase, service providers will replace components like burners or nozzles, followed by exhaust gas measurements. The firm Runkel will conduct sample checks on both the initial assessment and the subsequent technical adaptations. The final network conversion is slated for July 11 and August 29, 2028, specifically in the Lembeck and Rhade areas.
