Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service investigation concludes

An investigation into workplace safety, governance, and culture at the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s northern New South Wales operation has concluded. The review, commissioned late last year, examined allegations of bullying and sexual harassment.

Staff members are currently demanding the public release of the findings due to concerns regarding job security and the future of the rescue service. While the report has been finalized, its contents have not yet been made public. NSW Health Minister Ryan Park stated that the government expects to receive the report in due course.

The investigation was conducted by industrial relations specialist Cilla Robinson. The service, which operates under a contract with NSW Ambulance on behalf of NSW Health, faces an upcoming contract expiration in May next year, with a five-year extension option currently pending approval.

Additionally, the rescue service’s chief executive, Steven Underwood, announced he will retire at the end of the year due to an underlying medical condition.
