Wests Group proposes $69m apartment project in Nelson Bay
Wests Group has submitted a development application for a $68.97 million serviced apartment project at the Nelson Bay Diggers club. The proposed five-storey building would feature 71 tourist apartments, consisting of 26 one-bedroom, 40 two-bedroom, and five three-bedroom units.
The project is slated for the western portion of the club’s 1.51-hectare site, which currently contains a car park and a gymnasium already approved for demolition. Planned amenities include a ground-floor reception, a second-level swimming pool, a spa, and an outdoor play area. Pedestrian links will connect the new apartments to the existing club’s dining and entertainment facilities.
Due to the project's cost, it is classified as regional development and will be determined by the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Planning Panel rather than the Port Stephens Council. The plan involves removing 103 existing parking spaces but adding 75 new spaces, 45 of which will include electric vehicle charging capabilities.
