Wests Tigers upset Sydney Roosters in NRL top-four race

The Wests Tigers secured a major upset against the Sydney Roosters with a 25-24 victory at Allianz Stadium. Halfback Jock Madden clinched the win by kicking a field goal in the 79th minute, snapping an eight-game losing streak for the Tigers.

The loss significantly impacts the NRL top-four race. The Roosters, who were seeking to move clear of the Warriors and Penrith, now sit third with two rounds remaining in the season. Roosters coach Trent Robinson described the result as “not good” for the team’s pursuit of the minor premiership.

During the match, the Tigers faced early adversity when prop Alex Twal was ruled out due to a head knock within the first minute. The Roosters also faced setbacks as lock Victor Radley was placed on report and required a head injury assessment.
