Westwing implements restructuring to refocus on home decor

Westwing is undergoing a significant business restructuring to return to its core focus on home decor and design curation. Following a period of rapid expansion that saw the company lose its identity between a shopping club and a generalist marketplace, CEO André Machado has implemented a strategy to stabilize the business and generate cash.

Key measures of this restructuring include reducing the product portfolio from 85,000 items to 22,000 to resolve logistical challenges and cutting approximately 30% of the workforce. The company aims to shift from a generalist model to a specialized retailer, with a goal of having 85% of sales come from proprietary brands within three years, up from an initial 20%.

Despite these efforts, the company faces significant financial hurdles. Westwing's shares have declined approximately 97% since its 2021 IPO, with a 52% drop occurring in 2026 alone. While the company recently achieved a positive operational cash flow of R$ 1.3 million after a 12-month period of losses, it reported a net loss of R$ 10.7 million for the second quarter of 2026.
