Westwood Hills Elementary School shooting in Virginia leaves one adult injured
A shooting occurred at Westwood Hills Elementary School in Waynesboro, Virginia, on Wednesday morning. Authorities reported that a 19-year-old gunman, identified as Anthony Ignatiadis-Isabelle, forced his way into the school library, where he shot and wounded a staff member before killing himself.
Waynesboro Police Chief David Shaw stated that officers responded to a report of a suspicious person within three minutes. The injured adult staff member was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. No children or other staff members were harmed during the incident.
Following the shooting, the school was evacuated, and student reunification was coordinated at Westminster Presbyterian Church. As a precaution, other schools in the district, including those in Stuarts Draft and the Wilson Complex, were placed under lockdown. Waynesboro Public Schools confirmed that all students and staff members were accounted for and safe.
