Wet corn prices in Poland rise amid high fertilizer and fuel costs

Wet corn prices in Poland have increased compared to previous years, with current prices typically starting at 600 PLN per ton and reaching up to 650 PLN per ton in certain northern regions. While these rates represent some of the best valuations in recent years, the increased revenue is partially offset by rising costs for fertilizers and fuel.

Profitability for farmers depends heavily on yield and management of production costs. To break even with production costs estimated between 4,500 and 5,000 PLN per hectare, a yield of approximately 7.25 to 8 tons per hectare is required at a selling price of 620 PLN per ton. This is a notable improvement over 2025, where yields of 11 to 12 tons were often necessary to balance expenditures.

Farmers face additional financial decisions regarding whether to sell wet corn immediately or invest in drying. Drying grain involves significant costs for energy carriers such as LPG or natural gas, as well as storage expenses. The choice between selling wet grain or drying it for later sale depends on a farm's financial stability and the ability to wait for higher prices for dry grain.
