Wetteraukreis gun shop burglaries lead to arrest and manhunt
Two gun shops in the Wetterau district were burglarized during the early hours of August 16, 2026. The first incident occurred around 02:50 AM in Friedberg, where intruders broke into a shop on Gebrüder-Lang-Straße and stole several blank-firing weapons.
A second burglary took place at approximately 04:40 AM in Butzbach-Hoch-Weisel on Lindenbergstraße. While it is unclear if items were stolen during this second incident, the perpetrators fled in a black SUV.
Following a police pursuit on the A5 motorway, officers intercepted a black Porsche Macan near Frankfurt-Nieder-Eschbach. One suspect was arrested at the scene, and several blank-firing weapons—believed to be the stolen goods—were recovered from the vehicle. A second suspect, described as a man approximately 25 years old with short dark hair, fled the vehicle and remains at large. Police utilized a helicopter in the ongoing manhunt.
