Wettingen ranked most attractive Swiss municipality for families

A new ranking by consulting firm Wüest Partner has identified Wettingen, located in the Canton of Aargau, as the most attractive municipality for families living in the agglomeration of major Swiss cities. As housing costs rise in urban centers like Zurich, Basel, and Bern, many families are relocating to surrounding areas.

The study compared 116 municipalities with at least 10,000 inhabitants. The evaluation was based on a model of a four-person family with a combined gross income of 180,000 Swiss francs renting a 130-square-meter apartment. The ranking factored in rent and taxes in relation to local job availability, accessibility, and infrastructure.

Wettingen took first place, ahead of Urdorf, Dietikon, Spreitenbach, Wallisellen, and Kloten. In Wettingen, the monthly rent for the model apartment is 2,740 francs, with total annual costs for rent and taxes amounting to approximately 53,600 francs. While municipalities like Widnau, Neuhausen am Rheinfall, and Wittenbach offer lower annual costs, they rank lower overall due to fewer accessible jobs compared to Wettingen, which offers over 800,000 reachable jobs.
