German police handle wave of threats, thefts and bomb incidents in July 2026

In July 2026 police forces across Germany responded to a series of unrelated incidents. A 60‑year‑old man threatened staff at a Baden‑Baden clinic with a claimed firearm, prompting a deployment in Baden‑Baden and a second operation in Ortenberg; no weapon was found. A World‑War‑II bomb was uncovered on Herten’s Schützenstraße and safely defused without injuries. Vehicle thefts included a Mercedes‑V‑Class taken from a spa parking lot in Bad Sassendorf and a blue VW Caravelle bus stolen from Blankenrath; both cases remain under investigation. Multiple property crimes were reported: vandalism of a parked Opel Astra in Hassfurt, a break‑in at a Fritzlar apartment building, and thefts of bicycles and e‑bikes in Hassfurt, Elmshorn and Bindlach. A woman in Euskirchen was caught with 60 pairs of socks and charged with aggravated shoplifting and driving without a licence. An explosion caused by a hand‑grenade damaged a storefront in Hamburg’s Mönckebergstraße; four suspects were arrested on the nearby autobahn. Police also placed two suspects in pre‑trial detention after finding methamphetamine and pyrotechnics in a Halle (Saale) residence.
