Weyburn, Saskatchewan opens public survey for urban forestry plan

The City of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, is seeking resident input for a new Urban Forestry Management Plan. A public survey runs from August 5 to September 2, allowing residents to share priorities on tree maintenance, planting expansion, and future investment.

The initiative is a partnership between the city and consulting firm Green Drop Tree Care, funded largely by a $131,000 grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities that covers 80 % of costs. Parks Manager Curtis Block said the city’s trees are “an important part of the health and livability of our community,” and that public feedback will help shape the plan’s long‑term direction.

The first phase, an inventory of city‑owned trees, is nearing completion, and the survey results will be combined with the inventory and consultant recommendations to set practical goals for the urban forest’s growth and resilience.
