Węgierska Górka holds ceremonies for military and partisan anniversaries

On September 1, 2026, Węgierska Górka held annual patriotic ceremonies to commemorate three significant historical anniversaries: the 87th anniversary of the defense of Węgierska Górka, the 83rd anniversary of the loss of partisans in Żabnica, and the 80th anniversary of the loss of soldiers from the National Armed Forces.

The event included a march from the municipal office to the ‘Wędrowiec’ combat shelter, where a flag-raising ceremony and a Holy Mass were held in honor of the fallen. Participants included state and local government officials, uniformed services, and various patriotic associations.

Representing the Silesian Border Guard was Brigadier General Andrzej Jakubaszek. The ceremonies featured musical accompaniment from the Border Guard Representative Orchestra from Nowy Sącz and participation from the 18th Bielsko Airborne Battalion. The proceedings concluded with an Roll Call of the Fallen, a ceremonial salute, and the laying of wreaths at a memorial plaque.
