Whalsay defeated 4-0 by Golspie Stafford in Highland Amateur Cup final
Whalsay fell short in their bid to become the first team from Shetland to win the Highland Amateur Cup, losing 4-0 to Golspie Stafford in the final held in Wick.
Despite an early goal from Golspie Stafford, Whalsay applied significant pressure and created several chances to equalize before halftime. However, Stafford secured the victory with three second-half goals, including a counter-attack strike in the 72nd minute that effectively decided the match. This victory marks the first time in history that Golspie Stafford has lifted the trophy.
Whalsay manager John Montgomery expressed pride in the team’s achievement, noting that the run has put the club on the map and demonstrated the quality of football in Shetland. This marks the second time a Shetland team has reached the final of the prestigious competition, following Lerwick Spurs in 2018.
