WhatsApp account blocks disrupt users across Israel
The Israeli Internet Association reported a sudden wave of WhatsApp account blockages over the past weekend, affecting dozens of users nationwide. The service, used by roughly 99 % of Israeli adults, saw many accounts locked without explanation, leaving users unable to access personal, professional and emergency communications.
The association has appealed to Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, for an urgent resolution but says it has received no clear response. It warned against scams offering paid “unblocking” services, noting only Meta can restore access. Users were urged to back up photos, videos, documents and chats and to arrange alternative contact methods such as phone, email or other messengers. The association also called on the Israeli government to press Meta for transparency and a swift fix to the technical fault behind the disruptions.
