WhatsApp account recovery steps and security precautions

If a WhatsApp account is hacked, users can regain control by following a specific login process. To recover an account, a user should open WhatsApp, select ‘Log in again’, and enter their phone number including the country code. Upon receiving a six-digit verification code via SMS or phone call, entering this code will complete the registration and automatically log the account out of all other devices, including the hacker's device.

If a hacker has enabled Two-Step Verification and the user does not know the PIN, the user must wait seven days before attempting to recover the account again. To prevent future issues, users are advised to use the ‘Change Phone Number’ feature immediately when switching to a new SIM card to ensure the account remains linked to their current number.
