WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has rolled out a suite of updates aimed at improving group chat functionality. The most prominent addition is the @all mention, which lets a user notify every member of a group with a single tag. In groups with more than 32 participants, only administrators can trigger @all, and the notification can be muted in the app’s settings. The feature is intended for urgent announcements and overrides any chat‑level mute settings.

Polls have also been enhanced: creators can now set a deadline that automatically closes voting, hide the names of voters for anonymity, and edit the poll question within 15 minutes of posting. These changes streamline decision‑making in large groups.

A new shortcut lets users start a fresh group chat from the members of an existing conversation, reducing the effort of manually adding participants. Additionally, WhatsApp introduced a username option that allows users to be identified by a chosen name instead of a phone number, helping to keep personal numbers private while still enabling contact within chats.

The updates are being pushed globally to all WhatsApp users.
