WhatsApp adds redesigned message menu for Android beta users and launches paid theme customization
WhatsApp has begun rolling out two separate updates. A redesigned contextual message menu, modeled on the iPhone layout, is now available to a limited group of Android beta testers. The new menu appears beside selected messages, consolidating common actions such as forward, edit and reply, while less‑used options are grouped under a “More” section. This change aims to reduce clutter and bring greater consistency between Android and iOS versions of the app.
In parallel, WhatsApp introduced a paid subscription called WhatsApp Plus that lets users change the app’s overall theme. Subscribers can pick from a limited set of about 20 colour schemes and also modify the app icon, but the feature does not support third‑party themes or extensive customisation. The subscription is being rolled out gradually and is not yet available to all users.
