WhatsApp storage tools let users clear hidden files and free phone space

WhatsApp can consume several gigabytes of a phone’s storage through a hidden folder that stores received photos, videos, documents and voice messages. When storage runs low, the app may stop functioning properly. Users can access a built‑in manager on both Android and iOS by opening WhatsApp, tapping Settings → Storage and data → Manage storage. The tool lists chats and groups that use the most space and aggregates large files (over 5 MB) so they can be deleted without opening each conversation. Deleted items are removed permanently, as WhatsApp has no recycle‑bin feature.

To prevent future buildup, users can disable automatic media downloads for mobile data, Wi‑Fi and roaming, and turn off the option that saves received media to the phone’s gallery. Regularly reviewing the storage manager helps keep the device running smoothly.
