WhatsApp adds update‑frequency controls to Mac beta

WhatsApp is testing a new setting in its macOS beta that lets users decide how often the app updates. The option appears in a new "App updates" section of the Settings menu, where users can view the installed version, manually check for new builds, and choose between two automatic update channels.

The "Latest version" channel delivers builds almost daily, providing the newest bug fixes, stability improvements and early‑access features, while the "Stable weekly version" bundles the weekly‑released changes for a more predictable experience. The feature is currently available only to a subset of beta testers and is being rolled out gradually after the TestFlight beta program was discontinued. WhatsApp now distributes beta builds directly from its own servers, and has not announced an official launch date for the update‑frequency control.

The change gives Mac users more control over the balance between receiving the latest features quickly and maintaining a stable application environment.
