WhatsApp develops new calling and contact features
WhatsApp is developing new features currently being tested in beta versions for iOS. One upcoming function will allow users to initiate voice and video calls with individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account. To use this, a user will generate a link via the calls section that can be shared through email or other social media platforms. Recipients can join the call through a web browser without needing to install the app or register a phone number. The host will maintain control, with the ability to authorize participants or end the communication, while maintaining end-to-end encryption.
Additionally, the platform is working on a birthday notification system. This feature will use information stored in a user's phone contact list to display reminders. When a contact's birthday arrives, a cake emoji and an indicator will appear next to their name within a new “Contacts” tab. This tab is part of a broader interface redesign intended to reorganize navigation and consolidate contact-related information, such as online status and recent activity.
