WhatsApp develops new Contacts tab and birthday reminders

WhatsApp is developing several interface updates to improve user navigation and social interaction, according to features detected in beta versions of the application.

A new dedicated Contacts tab is being designed to consolidate the user's address book in one location. This section will allow users to see who is currently online via a green dot on profile pictures. It will also offer sorting options, such as alphabetical order or an activity-based view that prioritizes recently active contacts.

Additionally, the platform is working on birthday reminders. When a contact's birthday arrives, a cake emoji and a “Birthday today” message will appear next to their name. This feature will pull date information directly from the user's phone contact list rather than requiring manual entry within the app. Other planned updates include a new navigation bar to facilitate switching between chats, communities, Meta AI, and calls.
