WhatsApp expands automation tools and adds username reservation feature

WhatsApp, with more than two billion users worldwide, is increasingly being used as a core channel for commercial communication. Businesses can now automate replies on Android using third‑party bots and AI‑driven tools that detect user intent, answer routine queries and schedule appointments, reducing response times and operational costs.

In Brazil, the app recently introduced a username reservation system that lets users claim a unique @handle. This identifier can be shared publicly instead of a phone number, improving privacy, lowering spam risk and enabling consistent branding for individuals and businesses. The update also brings stronger security measures such as two‑step verification, activity alerts and enhanced protections for high‑risk accounts, alongside new group‑labeling and messaging tools.
