WhatsApp expands group video calls to 32 participants and adds optional chat history for new members

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has upgraded its group video‑calling feature. Calls can now include up to 32 participants, support screen sharing with audio, and use the new MLow audio codec to reduce noise and improve clarity. The changes aim to bring the platform closer to competitors such as Zoom and Google Meet for professional and remote‑work use.

In parallel, WhatsApp is testing a feature that lets group admins send a limited chat‑history to new members. When enabled, the app transmits pinned messages and up to 100 selected past messages. All existing members receive a system notification that the history has been sent, ensuring transparency. Users can disable the option if they prefer not to share past messages.
