WhatsApp expands utility with workplace learning and username features

WhatsApp is evolving beyond a messaging tool into a platform for workplace learning and enhanced user connectivity. In many regions, such as Asia and the Pacific, structured learning participation among the working-age population remains low, with an International Labour Organization study noting only 12.6 percent participation. This creates a demand for flexible, modular learning models that can reach frontline workers in factories or plantations who lack regular access to corporate email or computers.

Simultaneously, WhatsApp is rolling out technical updates to improve user experience. A new feature allows users to save contacts using usernames instead of phone numbers on Android and iOS devices. This system verifies the username within the platform before saving. Additionally, the app is developing new chat themes for iOS, including 'Features' with animated wallpapers, 'Doodle' for a familiar look, and 'Minimal' for plain light or dark backgrounds.
