WhatsApp launches guest calling for users without accounts

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called ‘guest calling,’ which allows users to invite individuals to voice or video calls even if they do not have a WhatsApp account. To participate, guests simply need to click an invitation link shared by the host and join via a web browser on a computer, eliminating the need to install the app or register.

These calls support up to 32 participants and maintain end-to-end encryption. While guests can use collaborative tools such as screen sharing, emoji reactions, and the ‘raise hand’ function, they face certain restrictions to ensure privacy: they cannot see the phone numbers of other participants, send text messages, or add new people to the call. The host maintains full control, including the ability to manually approve guests from a waiting room or remove them at any time.

Additionally, WhatsApp is testing ‘focus schedules’ for its paid WhatsApp Plus subscribers, allowing users to automate notification settings for specific chat lists based on set times. Looking ahead, Meta plans to integrate WhatsApp call links with Google Calendar and Outlook by the end of the year to facilitate easier meeting scheduling.
