WhatsApp tests 2x video speed and guest calling features

WhatsApp is testing two major new features within its iOS beta versions to enhance user connectivity and content consumption.

First, the platform is introducing a 2x playback speed option for Status videos. Detected in beta version 26.36.10.70, this feature allows users to speed up videos by long-pressing the right side of the screen. The playback returns to normal speed once the user releases their finger, providing a temporary and dynamic way to consume longer video updates without permanent setting changes.

Second, WhatsApp is developing a guest calling feature, identified in beta version 26.36.10.71. This function would allow users to invite individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account to join voice or video calls via a browser link. To maintain security and privacy, the host will retain control, requiring manual approval for guests to join the session. The feature is designed to maintain end-to-end encryption through a specialized browser session key, ensuring that simplified access does not compromise communication standards.
