WhatsApp rolls out revamped group UI on Android and adds group video calls to its Web client

WhatsApp’s Android beta (version 2.26.24.x, June 2026) introduces a redesigned group‑info screen split into “Settings” and “Privacy” sections, a new context menu for long‑pressed messages, and deeper system integration that lets users manage backups from Android’s device settings. Additional features in the beta include a widget for recording voice notes without opening the app, profile‑info expiration controls, and support for Android 17 system‑wide credentials.

In parallel, WhatsApp Web is testing group voice and video calls for up to 32 participants. The feature works like individual calls, with an on‑screen call button, choice between audio or video, and end‑to‑end encryption. Early testers can start a group call directly from a browser‑based group chat, selecting specific members to include.
