WhatsApp storage management: How to clear hidden files
WhatsApp does not feature a traditional, visible recycle bin, but it generates temporary deposits and residual folders that can consume significant internal memory. When users delete conversations, voice notes, or videos, many multimedia elements remain stored in the device's cache or gallery folders.
On Android devices, these files are often found in the native photo gallery's trash or the internal file explorer, where they may persist for 30 to 60 days before permanent deletion. Users can manage storage directly within WhatsApp by navigating to Settings, then Storage and Data, and selecting Manage Storage to identify and remove large or frequently forwarded files.
On iOS devices, deleted images are typically redirected to the Recently Deleted album. To effectively free up space, users may also need to clear the application cache or remove duplicate files stored in the phone's internal memory.
