WhatsApp storage management tips to free up device space

WhatsApp can become a primary consumer of smartphone storage due to the accumulation of photos, videos, audios, and documents, particularly in active group chats or when automatic downloads are enabled. High storage usage can lead to slower device performance and issues sending or receiving content.

Users can manage this space through the ‘Manage Storage’ tool located within WhatsApp settings under ‘Storage and Data’. This feature allows for selective cleaning, enabling users to identify and delete large files, such as heavy videos or unnecessary documents, without deleting entire chat histories.

Additionally, cloud backup storage plays a significant role. Android users utilize Google accounts, which share a 15 GB limit across Gmail, Drive, and Photos, while iPhone users rely on iCloud, which offers 5 GB of free space. Once these limits are reached, backups may fail and other services like Gmail or photo syncing may be affected. Before purchasing additional cloud storage, it is recommended to review and delete unnecessary media within the app.
