WhatsApp storage management tools help users free up device space

WhatsApp users can manage device storage by utilizing the app’s built-in storage management tools to delete large media files without losing text-based chat history. Most storage consumption is driven by accumulated photos, videos, voice notes, documents, and frequently forwarded media, particularly within active group chats.

To access these tools, users on Android can navigate to Settings, then Storage and data, and select Manage storage. iPhone users can find this via their profile picture, followed by Storage and data, and Manage storage. The interface allows users to identify which specific chats or channels are consuming the most space and provides the option to sort files by size to target the largest items first.

Users are advised to create a chat backup before deleting media, as deletions within the app are permanent. Additionally, adjusting auto-download settings can prevent future storage issues by controlling how much media is automatically saved to the device.
