WhatsApp tests 2x playback speed for video Status updates
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to play video Status updates at double speed. The functionality was recently detected in Android beta version 2.26.40.4, following previous appearances in iOS test versions.
Unlike the existing method for accelerating voice messages, which uses a fixed button, this new feature utilizes a gesture-based approach similar to platforms like TikTok or Instagram. To activate the 2x speed, users must press and hold the right side of the screen. The playback speed returns to normal immediately upon releasing the screen, allowing for temporary acceleration during the 30-second Status updates.
Meta has not yet announced an official release date for the general public. The feature must still undergo further testing and calibration within the beta programs before a full rollout.
