WhatsApp tests Android home‑screen widget for one‑tap voice messaging

Meta is beta‑testing a new Android home‑screen widget that lets WhatsApp users record and send voice messages with a single tap, eliminating the need to open the full app. The prototype appears as a 3 × 1 widget that places a recording button on the home screen, allowing quick access to the microphone.

The feature is currently limited to a select group of users enrolled in the WhatsApp beta program and is not yet available through the Google Play Store. Meta says the widget is part of a broader effort to reduce friction in messaging, though privacy advocates note the risk of accidental recordings.
