WhatsApp tests birthday reminder feature on Android

Meta's WhatsApp is trialing a birthday reminder function in its Android beta build. The feature adds a dedicated section that lists upcoming birthdays from the phone's contact list and sends an in‑app notification when a contact’s birthday approaches. It relies on birth‑date data already stored on the device and does not require users to enter new information in the app. Privacy experts note that the reminder could raise concerns because it draws on data collected through Meta’s age‑verification system, though the current test does not offer user controls over who can see birth‑date details.
