WhatsApp tests draft notification feature for Android

WhatsApp is testing a new feature for Android users designed to prevent forgotten messages. The update will send a notification to the device's notification panel if a user leaves a message as a draft and exits the chat without sending it.

The alert, titled “Your draft” followed by the contact's name, is expected to appear approximately one minute after the user abandons the conversation. Tapping the notification will take the user directly back to the specific chat where the text remains pending. While WhatsApp already automatically saves partially typed messages, this new function aims to provide a proactive reminder.

This feature has been identified in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.35.2 for Android. It is currently being rolled out to select participants in the beta testing program. There is currently no confirmation regarding when or if this feature will be made available for iOS users.
