WhatsApp tests major interface update to integrate channels into Chats tab

WhatsApp is testing a significant interface overhaul for Android users that integrates followed channels directly into the main Chats tab. This update aims to streamline the user experience by moving channels from the current Updates tab into the primary messaging area.

As part of this transition, the existing Updates tab is expected to be removed, potentially being replaced by a Contacts tab. To prevent the main chat list from becoming cluttered, WhatsApp is testing three distinct configuration options for users:

1. Direct Integration: Channels appear chronologically within the main chat list alongside individual and group messages. 2. Default Archiving: Followed channels are automatically archived but remain easily accessible from the top of the chat list. 3. Dedicated Channels Folder: A specific folder or filter within the main chat list that aggregates all followed channels in one place.

Users currently testing the beta version may receive notifications allowing them to choose their preferred layout, ensuring flexibility in how they manage their chat and channel feeds.
