WhatsApp tests Android redesign with new navigation bar and Meta AI integration
WhatsApp is testing several significant interface updates for its Android application, according to recent beta versions. One major change involves a redesigned navigation bar that features a more oval, semi-transparent shape, mirroring the aesthetic used in the iOS version.
As part of this redesign, Meta AI may be integrated directly into the navigation bar rather than appearing as a floating button. Additionally, the company is exploring ways to reorganize how users interact with Channels. Tests suggest that subscribed Channels might be integrated directly into the Chats tab, potentially replacing the current ‘Updates’ tab.
To manage this transition, WhatsApp is testing different display configurations, such as placing Channels in a separate folder within the chat list or allowing them to appear alongside regular chats. These features are currently in early development stages within the beta program and are subject to further changes before a wide release.
